Francesca Shaw

Research Linguist, Lyrebird AI

Francesca is a linguist and researcher, passionate about communicating the potential of speech technology to revolutionise the way we interact with our machines. She heads Lyrebird's data collection efforts, bringing years of industry experience working to integrate speech technology with large-scale client projects.

Prior to her work with Lyrebird and the ALS Association on Project Revoice, Francesca was part of a Scottish team working with Team Gleason: a non-profit working to raise awareness of ALS and to provide leading-edge technologies and equipment to those who would benefit from them. Steve Gleason was featured using his synthetic voice to narrate Microsoft's ad 'Empowering' at Super Bowl XLVIII to the largest television audience in U.S. history at the time.

Francesca has given demonstrations and talks about speech technology across a variety of platforms, including BBC radio and the 'Lates' program at the Science Museum in London as part of the Royal Society's Next Big Thing project.
